Longboat Key, FL

Probably my favorite sandbar in the Sarasota area is Jewfish Key. It’s my favorite because it is big, is near a lot of restaurants, has a beautiful setting and has super clear water. It’s a very popular spot on the weekends!

Jewfish Key

The island of Jewfish Key is pretty cool. There’s probably around 10 homes on the island and residents can only get there by boat. You can also rent some of the homes. One of them is HERE.

The Sandbar

Jewfish Key sandbar is on the western side of the island and is huge. It’s a perfect place for relaxing with family and exploring for sea creatures. The edges of the bar offer fantastic swimming holes and the water is super clear and very comfortable. As you move west, closer to the bridge the tidal current will increase and the sand becomes more rocky. My favorite spots to anchor are closer to the island (see circles on the Google map pics). You’ll want to use a bow anchor and a stern anchor when securing your spot.

The Area

Jewfish Key is centrally located between Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island. There are numerous vacation rentals and awesome restaurants in the area as well. The northern part of Longboat Key is my favorite because it’s so quaint an “old Florida”. Anna Maria Island is even more so!

Most Convenient Boat Ramps

The most convenient boat ramp to use is the Coquina Beach South boat ramp. Another one is the Coquina Beach North ramp and a few more in the Bradenton Beach area. Another good ramp is the 10th St. boat ramp in Sarasota but that’s farther away (11 miles of open bay). You can find information on the Coquina Beach South boat ramp HERE.
