Crab Island

Destin, FL

Crab Island is an iconic sandbar located in Destin, Florida. It’s one of the most popular sandbars in the nation due to its’ crystal-clear water, shallow depth, and amenity-filled size.

PHENOMENAL WATER

One of the cornerstones of Crab Island is its’ crystal-clear water. During an incoming tide, the water at Crab Island gets flooded with pure clear water straight from the Gulf of Mexico. It makes the sandbar appear like a tropical island. Make sure to time it right. During an outgoing tide the water becomes much less clear as the bay water takes over.

AMENITIES GALORE

Another cornerstone of Crab Island is the sheer amount of activities and vendors present. You can find just about anything here or do nothing at all. Heck, at one time there you could attend Church here! Personally, I love drinking pure coconut water or eating fresh pineapple from Wild Coconuts but you can also find food, ice cream and who knows what else!

GETTING HERE

The only way to visit Crab Island is by boat. The current and boat traffic in the Pass makes it dangerous to try and get here by SUP or kayak. Not to worry, there are endless companies that rent pontoon boats located nearby. The day I visited, I rented from Gilligan’s. Regardless of who you rent from, Crab Island is a “must-do” when you’re in the Destin area.

If trailering your boat I strongly suggest using BOAT US for trailer coverage and roadside assistance.  Besides trailering, Boat US also offers a wealth of benefits that will make your boating better.  Click HERE for more information about Boat US.
