The Boca Grande bike path is one of the best!  Located on Gasparilla Island (Boca Grande), it runs the entire length of the island.

THE BIKE PATH

The bike path used to be the railroad tracks that brought phosphate and vacationers onto the island.  After the train was discontinued the island created the bike path.  Today, the Boca Grande bike path is a major draw for cyclists, golf carts, joggers and walkers and has become a major transportation center.  Overall, the path is 6 miles long to the southern tip of the island however, it can be stretched longer when you add all the beautiful side roads and sights.

THE QUAINT TOWN

Downtown Boca Grande is one of the most quaint beach towns in all of Florida. It’s that way because of it’s small stores, historic architecture, strict building codes and tropical setting. In addition, most people travel in golf carts instead of cars which really enhances the overall feel.

THE HISTORY

The history of Boca Grande really began when they build a railroad connecting Port Boca Grande to the mainland in 1905. After that, it became a thriving fishing and phosphate economy as well as an attractive tourist destination for the wealthy. Today, the phosphate business no longer exists but tourism and fishing still do. Boca Grande has become a quiet, lesser known beach community that is known as “The Tarpon Capital of the World”.

THE NATURAL BEAUTY

Boca Grande is one of those places that makes you forget all your troubles as soon as you cross the first bridge to the island. The tropical, bright blue water of Gasparilla Pass and the smell of the salt air are a welcome ritual that has repeated itself for so many visitors and residents. As you drive further you’ll notice beautiful homes, manicured landscaping and lots of coconut trees as you head into town.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLACES

As you know by now, one of my favorite places in Florida is beautiful, Boca Grande.  Recently, I decided to document my day cruising the island on my bike and I had a blast.  Every time I visit Boca Grande I’m reminded how much I love it and how cool it is.  I figured I’d film it so you could see for yourself.  Hopefully, you’ll find it informative.  Enjoy!
