In a previous location post, I wrote about boating on the Winter Park chain of lakes. You can view that post HERE. While I’m a big boater and love watersports and relaxing, another great way to see the area is by “SUP” or stand-up paddle board.
Winter Park has some fantastic lakes for stand-up paddle-boarding because there’s not a lot of boat traffic, the water is generally calm and there’s a ton of beauty to be seen. In fact, the entire Orlando area offers some amazing lakes and rivers that are perfect for “SUPing”.
PADDLEBOARD ORLANDO
If you are experienced at the sport or a newcomer, local knowledge is always preferred and that is why I’d recommend visiting a local paddle board shop for some expert advice. One such place is “Paddleboard Orlando” located on the banks of beautiful, Lake Killarney within the Trader Joe’s shopping plaza.
Paddleboard Orlando offers beginner classes, sup yoga, manatee paddles and corporate outings and paddle parties. One type of excursion that is timely before we head into cooler weather is a paddle on the majestic, Wekiva River. It’s a great river to enjoy nature, get a workout and swim and play. You can find more information about that trip HERE.
PADDLE WITH THE MANATEES
Another type of paddle that is great during the months of November to March is the Manatee paddle. Paddleboard Orlando provides guided tours to Blue Springs for this super-fun, adventure. For a lot of people, seeing Manatees is high on their list of “Florida things to do” and visiting Blue Springs is a great place to do it. Blue Springs is perfect because it holds a decent population of Manatees during the winter months as they try to escape the cooler water. The park is also great because of its beauty and super-clear, water – making it easy to see what’s below the surface.
