TaTa Island

Ponce Inlet, FL

TaTa Island is another amazing location in the Ponce Inlet area of New Smyrna Beach. It’s a protected sandbar that is the perfect place to enjoy the day.

LOCATION

TaTa Island is located north of Disappearing Island and just to the west of Down the Hatch Seafood Company in Ponce Inlet. The sandbar can be accessed from either the west or the east and has a deep channel that runs alongside it making it easy to access. It’s worth noting that the eastern entrance to the channel is shallow and may require you to trim up your motors at low tide.

WATER CONDITIONS

The water conditions at TaTa Island are nice and calm but not as clear as water closer to the inlet. I didn’t notice any significant current when I visited and the bottom drops off pretty quickly on the channel side of the island. The opposite side has a very shallow tidal pool flat that’s perfect for small children or pets.

BOAT RAMP

The most convenient boat ramp and the one I used the day I visited is “Swoop Site Boat Ramp”. It was a nice facility that had restrooms and two steep ramps. The surfaces was grooved for good traction and there are floating docks for staging. That being said, the docks aren’t big and can only hold 2-3 boats each at once. Therefore, patience is required during busy times. Also, the staging docks are exposed to the ICW traffic. Despite it being a “Slow Speed” zone a few of the passing boats put up wakes big enough to really rock my boat and it was a little unsettling. There is plenty of parking at Swoop Site and it cost $10/day to park.
