"The Cove" Sandbar

Ft. Pierce, FL

“The Cove” sandbar in Ft. Pierce is the areas most popular and best sandbar for boaters.  Located just inside the local inlet is where you’ll find this great spot.

INLET LOCATION

This Ft. Pierce sandbar is found on the northern shoreline of the inlet and winds a little north courtesy of a great secluded channel.  This is a great area for all kinds of paddle sports as well as for boaters.  The currents can flow strong from time to time and the tides can get lower than you think.  Therefore, make sure to account for a falling tide when you anchor.

PEACEFUL SETTING

At first glance, “The Cove” sandbar looks like it’s primarily the northern shoreline of the inlet however, once you find the small channel that cuts through (by the no wake sign) you’ll be shown a little path to paradise.  All along that channel is a shallow shoreline that’s perfect for anchoring.  In addition, the natural, unspoiled setting is extremely peaceful.

UNIQUE AREA

Ft. Pierce is an area that seems to have been overlooked by large developers and I don’t know why. The area is kind of a throw back in time.  It’s “Old Florida” feel is noted by its ranch style homes and old school lodging.  It’s even more peculiar because the cities to the north and sound (Vero Beach and Stuart) are the complete opposite.  Whatever the reason, I’m glad that Ft. Pierce is the way that it is.

BOAT RAMPS

I used the North Island Causeway Park ramp when I launched.  I found the ramp to have narrow lanes and a strong side current. In addition, the tide was very low when I launched and my boat and the Hewes got caught under the fenders. I would recommend using the Shorewinds boat ramp as a better choice.

I utilize the service and benefits of Boat U.S.  They are a great organization that every boater should consider. You should too.  Click HERE to learn more.
