In order to combat the spread of COVID-19, Governor DeSantis signed an executive order to help enforce social distancing on the water.

EXECUTIVE ORDER HIGHLIGHTS

  1. The rule covers “all waters” of the state
  2. No more than 10 people per vessel is allowed
  3. Boats (all recreational vessels) must maintain a minimum distance of 50 feet between each other
  4. The distance doesn’t apply to permitted mooring fields, public or private marina, or any other permanently installed wet slips, and does not apply to vessels underway unless they are tied, rafted or moored to another vessel.
  5. The order is in effect currently “and shall expire when the Governor’s Executive Order 20-52, expires, or any extension thereof, unless rescinded or superseded at a sooner date.”

BE SMART

We’ve all seen boaters recently rafting up and partying on the sandbars as if it’s a normal time.  It isn’t!  As a result, people’s health can be put at risk.  Consequently, beaches and boat ramps have been closed in certain parts of the state.  In order to minimize the risk that people won’t get sick and more waters won’t be closed, it’s imperative that we adhere to these rules!

In my opinion, one of the best ways to “social distance” and maintain your sanity is to enjoy the day on the boat, SUP, kayak or jet ski.  Let’s be smart!

Consider Boat U.S. for your boating needs.  They are a great organization that provides numerous resources to improve your life on the water AND trailering your boat.  Click HERE for more information.
