Recently, I trailered my Hewes Redfisher to Ocala and visited the Silver River. What an amazing experience it was!
WHY THE SILVER RIVER?
I’ve heard stories from other boaters about how beautiful the Silver River is and that really peaked my interest. The River is the spring “run” that the spring water from Silver Springs travels down and eventually works its way to the St. John’s river and then the Atlantic Ocean. The river is known for its immense beauty and crystal clear water.
THE BEST FLORIDA SPRINGS TO VISIT BY BOAT
WILDLIFE
The Silver River is also known for incredible wildlife. Just about everything native to Florida can be found in and along the banks of this special place. In addition, even non-native species like the Rhesus Monkey can be found here in large numbers.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLACES
By now I’ve traveled to many places in Florida and traversed hundreds of miles by boat. This is definitely one of my favorite places to visit by boat anywhere. It’s so unique I can’t describe it. The only river that comes close to it is the Rainbow River. The Rainbow is amazing too but it’s definitely different in many ways.
BOAT AND TRAILER INFO
This River is only suited for small boats (i.e. under 22 feet), pontoon boats, kayaks, canoes, and jet skis. Anything bigger and you’ll have a difficult time navigating the river due to the many narrow corners and downed trees. In addition, the ramps aren’t super long and the parking spaces aren’t very deep.
