The Jewfish Key sandbar is one of my favorite places to visit by boat in the Sarasota area.  Crystal clear water, tropical scenery and a fun crowd is what makes this place special.

THE JOURNEY

The boat ride from Little Sarasota Bay to the Jewfish Key sandbar is approximately 20 miles each way.  The first five miles is protected however, the remainder of the journey traverses Sarasota Bay and can get rough depending on the weather.  It’s a fun ride that also passes by the barrier islands of Siesta Key, Lido Key, Longboat Key and downtown Sarasota.

THE 10 BEST PLACES TO BOAT IN FLORIDA

ONE OF MY FAVORITE SANDBARS

The Jewfish Key sandbar is one of my favorite boating locations in the Sarasota area primarily because the water is so clean and clear there.  As a result, this amazing sandbar can have a very tropical feel.  Especially, when you see the Polynesian-like backdrop of Jewfish Key.

FUN CROWD

To say this sandbar has a “fun crowd” is an understatement.  During the weekends and on holidays, Jewfish Key is lined with boats and everyone is making the most of it.  Here you’ll find the Jimmy Buffet crowd to the college kids and everyone in between.

TROPICAL TRIFECTA

A “tropical trifecta” is what I call a beautiful boating location when it has three main things.  They are as follows:

  • Crystal Clear Water
  • Tropical Setting (coconut palms visible)
  • Sandy Bottom
